![]() ![]() Everyone of my cars are modified in some way, the way I like them! But I'll never try to pass them as genuine factory. If you want a solid lifter-air car, fine, build it your way, just don't try to sell it to someone as genuine factory. But then what would you do about documentation? Forge it? If so, you'd loose my respect in a heartbeat! All that would have to be done is to locate a genuine LS-5/air car, remove the engine, install 4bolt caps on the block and all the other correct LS-6 internals, dated heads, dated manifold, carb, etc, and it would be EQUIVELENT to an LS-6/air car. But, if it were an original engine car (matching VIN on the block), the block would still not be stamped with the LS-6 code. It would be too easy to counterfiet a loaded, LS-6 air car, if you could round up all the correct parts. The spirited comeback had the Ranchero selling 21,027 units to the El Caminos 14,163 units. Ford had adapted their ute from the full-sized to a more compact Falcon-based platform and slashed prices to undercut Chevrolet a winning formula. If you EVER, EVER, EVER come across a supposedly "factory" solid lifter-air car, it is EXTREMELY likely that it is bogus-it would behoove you to see some serious documentation. Chevrolet had to do this because the 1960 Ranchero came out guns blazing. And that is the ONLY air-solid lifter combo ever available as a REGULAR FACTORY option in the history of Chevrolet! Several well documented examples exist today. In 1972, air conditioning was a genuine RPO (Regular Production Option) with the LT-1 engine (solid lifter 350) in the 72 Vette. Although, as I said the other day, there is always at least one exception to everything. As far as being a legitimate option, NO, air conditioning WAS NOT offered with ANY solid lifter Chevrolet engine. But, it is possible, maybe to some very high level GM executive. IT IS HIGHLY UNLIKELY THAT ANY SOLID LIFTER CAR WAS EVER DELIVERED with air conditioning. Back in those days,IF YOU HAD THE MONEY AND THE RIGHT CONNECTION, you could get almost anything you wanted. ![]()
